How to Get to Heaven
Have you
ever stopped to ask what will happen to you when you
die? There
are lots of theories that abound in the world today-
reincarnation, nirvana, heaven, hell- Any one could
possibly occur right?
But what
about that chance of hell?
Doesn’t sound too pleasant, all that fire,
does it? What
if that is what happens to you when you die?
It’s heaven or hell after all and what if you
don’t make it to heaven?
Let’s
just assume that the options are down to heaven or
hell. You
die and as you stand outside of heaven, God asks you
why he should let you in.
Your answer?
You think you’ve lived a good life.
You do more charity work than most people.
You help with the Red Cross.
How many good things does it take to get into
heaven? How
much good does it take to outweigh the bad? When
has your good work made up for the bad things you've
done?
Fortunately,
you don’t have to worry about this.
You can have the assurance that when you die
you will go to heaven!
How, you ask?
No amount of work will get you in.
All you have to do is accept God’s gift for
the entire world.
The Bible says in Romans 6:23, “For the wages
of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal
life.”
First,
accept that you are a sinner.
Sin is when you miss the mark, or fall short of
the standards God has set for us.
We all have sinned.
In the Bible, Romans 3:23 says, “For all have
sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
We can’t get into heaven on our own because a
holy God can’t accept sin.
Admitting that you have sinned and are not
worthy to be with God is the first step.
Second,
believe that there was a man named Jesus who paid the
penalty for your sins.
Some facts
about Jesus:
-
He
was an actual person
-
He
lived a sinless life and therefore didn’t
deserve to die
-
He
is God’s son
-
After
he was crucified on the cross, he rose from the
dead in three days
-
His
death is a sufficient sacrifice in place of the
penalty we should have to pay for our sins
John
3:16 says, “For God so loved the world, that he gave
his one and only son (Jesus), that whoever believes in
him will not perish but have eternal life.”
Believing that Jesus came to do this very thing
is the second step.
The third
and final step is to call on Jesus to forgive you of
your sins. Simply
tell God that you know you are a sinner, that you
believe Jesus paid the price for your sins, and you
accept his sacrifice in your place.
Romans 10:9 says, “If you confess with your
mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart
that God raised him from the dead, you will be
saved.” That’s
it; that’s all you need to be saved.
This is
just the start of your walk with God.
Salvation isn’t just about “fire
insurance” and making sure you stay out of hell.
