Welcome to Orrstown United Brethren Church
We are a
small church in one of Pennsylvania’s
smallest boroughs. We don’t have all the
programs to offer that you would find in a
large church, but we do have a number of
things that you may or may not find
attractive.
Family
Oriented:
Just like a family which is made up of a
number of individuals with different
preferences and varying ages, the church is
no different. We are part of God’s family
along with other churches throughout the
planet that faithfully seek to follow Jesus
Christ according to the words of Scripture.
At Orrstown UB we prefer not to cater to a
particular age group, but would rather help
each person faithfully worship God from
their heart.
Traditional in the right sort of way:
Most
people would consider our services rather
traditional, but we rather look at them as
flexible. We sing hymns and praise songs;
we utilize organ, piano and CD’s. But
tradition has to do with a lot more than the
order of worship.
There are
good, God ordained traditions, and we
believe firmly in living our lives in
accordance with them. These would include:
baptism, communion, and marriage the way God
intended it to name just a few.
But there
are also man-made traditions and these can
be good or bad. In fact, they can start out
good and turn bad. Traditions are worth
holding onto as long as they support the
ministry of the church to be faithful to her
Lord Jesus Christ. Any tradition that has
lost that purpose has got to go.
Seeking to
Worship God in spirit and in truth and to
live life with grace and truth:
We use two underlying principles from the
Gospel of John for our worship. The first
is found in chapter 1. There we find the
Son of God coming in human flesh to reveal
God to man, and He does so with a ministry
based on grace and truth. We as followers
of Jesus must desire to follow in His steps
and live lives that are based on His grace
and His truth.
The second
principle is found in chapter 4. Here we
learn what type of worshipers God is
interested in, realizing that God has the
final say in how His worshipers worship
Him. “God is spirit, and his worshipers
must worship in the Spirit and in truth”
(John 4:24 TNIV).

worship God according to Jesus’ words in
John 4:24.
