John 13:14

"Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet , you should wash one another's feet."

What are your initial thoughts when you read this verse?

Let’s take a look now at the context.

John 13:12-17

What was Jesus trying to get across to those present?

(humility/service to others/those in leadership must serve also)

Does it apply only to feet washing?

What does this passage have to do with me?  How should it impact my Christian life?

Is feet washing for today?  Why or why not?  Try not to answer on opinion or prejudice only.  What would be the spiritual benefits of washing someone else’s feet?

Did Jesus wash Judas Iscariot’s feet?  If so, what can we learn from this?

(possible answers:  God’s love does not discriminate.  It is offered even if none will be returned.)

Is it easy to serve others?  Is it easy to serve those who betray us?

What should we do in regard to serving others, including those who may have betrayed us?

How can we accomplish this service?

Note the blessing in verse 17.  First we know something, but the blessing doesn’t come until we do what?  (do them).  Remember faith is active not passive.
