Galatians 5:13

“You, my brothers, were called to be free.  But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love.” 

If you were to ask the average person on the street to define “freedom,” how would they respond? 

Is freedom normally seen as other’s-centered or self-centered? 

Give examples of each.  (dying for your country; “it’s a free country”) 

What is the connection between freedom, not indulging the sinful nature and serving one another? 

Let’s look at the context:  Galatians 5:13-25 

What can unbridled freedom lead to?  (v15) 

How does submission to the Holy Spirit bring about true freedom? 

How does God ordained freedom differ from the general view of freedom?  (v18) 

Name specific ways that the list in v19 through v21 impedes freedom and negatively impacts service to one another.  (slave to sinful nature; thinking of selfish pleasures rather than other’s good) 

How can we use the list in v22 through v23 to “serve one another in love?” 

How does v24 and v25 compliment or contradict v13? 

How does v26 relate to v13?
